Paradigm Shift

The great questions—Is there a God? What is knowledge? What is reality?—remain because we are still trying to answer them with mental tools built for an earlier age. We left astrology behind, but not always the habits of mind that made it possible.

For those who lived within the intellectual world that preceded it, the Enlightenment was something like a Red Pill. It opened a door out of a Matrix of inherited authority and assumptions about reality that had seldom been systematically tested.

We still live inside a Matrix constructed from language, culture, education, ideology, tradition, and assumptions absorbed before we were old enough to examine them. Too often, we mistake our maps of reality for reality itself.

Your Red Pill is RISE²—an organized system of intellectual and linguistic tools, techniques, and concepts designed to help us recognize those maps, test them, and change them when they fail.

R is Reason—our capacity for language, logic, abstraction, and deliberate thought.

I is Intuition—the silent recognition of patterns and possibilities.

S is Science—the disciplined testing of our maps against the territory.

The E² means Enlightenment Two: the possibility of another step toward intellectual freedom—not freedom from culture, but freedom from being unconsciously imprisoned by it.

RISE² does not give you another collection of answers. It gives you tools for questioning the answers—including ours.

No idea is exempt. Not even ours.

It is your Red Pill.

The transition from astrology to astronomy was more than the replacement of one belief system by another. It represented a profound expansion of the human intellectual toolkit: from interpreting the heavens through inherited meanings to testing our maps against observation. It was a paradigm shift.

RISE² asks whether we can make a similar transition in the way we think about ourselves, our culture, and the great questions that have followed us for thousands of years.

And perhaps those who learn to make that transition become more than independent thinkers. They become participants in the defense and advancement of civilization.

This is harder than it sounds. Changing another person’s mind is difficult enough; changing the habits of your own mind is harder still. But take the Red Pill, and the effort becomes something else: fascinating, challenging, sometimes unsettling—and, above all, an adventure.

MORPHEUS: This is your last chance. After this there is no turning back. You take the blue pill, the story ends; you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe.: You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

MORPHEUS: Remember, all I’m offering is the truth, nothing more.
